Today my life unfolds
on its journey of a new beginning.

I woke up to the sun pouring
in my bedroom window.

I am "Thankful" for I have a house
to shelter me and give me peace.

I could hear the soft music whisper
throughout the air as the
alarm was going off.

I am "Thankful" I have electricity to
run my many gadgets and light my nights.

I pull back the warm soft covers,
hop out of my comfortable bed
and lay my feet upon the soft
carpet on my floor.

I am "Thankful" I have a warm place
to lay my head at night
and something besides dirt under my feet.

I walk across the floor and open my closet
to get out my days assembly of human dignity.

I am "Thankful" for clothes to
wear that are free of holes and will
keep me warm on even the coldest of days.

I open my door, go into the kitchen
and prepare my morning meal as
the birds sing their songs
outside of my window.

I am "Thankful" for the food
that I have to prepare
and the fact that I get to
hear birds singing
instead of the sound of gunfire or
the whistling of missiles.

I sit down to read the paper,
pick up a book to take with me on my day
and say my prayer of thanks to God.

I am "Thankful" for the ideals that are
real in my life such as;
freedom of speech,
freedom of the press
and freedom of religion.

I have awakened in the morning
and just spend the first hour of the day...
"Thankful" for what?

"Thankful" for all of the men and women
that have given me a safe haven
in which to spend my life.

"Thank You"
Veterans
for without you
we would not have the comforts
of our lives to share with those we love.

Your sacrifices
have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

Thanking a Veteran...
